Tricia Copeland - Drops of Sunshine review

With a job as a camp counselor, sixteen-year-old Nina heads to the wilderness for summer break. With her year all she wants is an escape. But some special kids can hear her thoughts and she can't hide her head in the sand like she planned. Can Nina come to terms with all her swirling emotions? Sometimes all it takes is a drop of sunshine!

Oh wow! So this was my first book from Tricia Copeland, but it DEFINITELY won't be my last! I read it in one sitting and couldn't put it down.  I wasn't ready for it to be over, either! I was drawn into the story and life at Camp Green Lake.  Nina had issues going on at home so camp seemed like a reprieve to her.  However, she wasn't expecting persistent counselors and kids with extra talents.  There is an interesting story among the counselors and the campers. Not to mention things going on back home for Nina.  She has to learn how to deal with what life has handed her and learn how to open herself up to others. This was a different story for me, but very enjoyable and if you're looking for a new author or just a new kind of story, don't let this book pass you by! Grab your copy today!

Tricia Copeland grew up in Georgia and now lives in Colorado with her husband, three kids, and multiple four legged and finned friends. Drops of Sunshine is her first young adult and paranormal work. First published in Spellbound, a YA paranormal novella collection, it has already received great reviews. Tricia’s clean new adult Being Me series includes the titles Is This Me?, If I Could Fly, and Think You Know Me. The series finale is due out September 2016. If not on the trail, you can find Tricia at triciacopeland.com or on many social media channels.

M. O'Keefe - Burn Down the Night review and giveaway

Oh my heavens!  THIS book!!!!!  I mean, it's now a day later that I'm writing this review because I had to let everything that happened process and it STILL has its hooks in me.  The emotions this book provokes is powerful.  I'm not going to lie,  this book made me cry.  It was raw, edgy, rough, sad, sweet and completely unputdownable!  (Okay, so I make up my own words on occasion. ha!)  Seriously. I  simply DEVOURED this book and read it in 1 day. Make sure when you get this book, you block out the time. You won't want to put it down either! Just so you know, this is the 3rd book in the series.   I HIGHLY recommend reading from the beginning.  See my review for Everything I Left Unsaid

This isn't a light, fluffy read but one that will suck you in from the very beginning.  We know a little about Max because of Dylan, but we don't know his full story until now.  And it will break your heart. And Joan was part of Annie's life, so we have also seen glimpses of her. She's a tough nut to crack and she's been fending for herself for a long time.

Max and Joan have been dancing around each other for awhile. The reader knows they would be good together, but THEY have to decide if they're good together.  And whew boy, Molly knows how to write tension! You could cut it with a knife, but that's partly what makes this book sooo good! The build-up is unlike any other book out there and you can't pull yourself away from their story.  I don't want to say too much without giving anything away but just know, you need these books in your life!  Seriously.   And I'm STILL thinking about this story.  AMAZING!  Please do yourself a favor and GO READ NOW!!

Tell you what. I loved this series so much, I want to gift someone with Everything I Left Unsaid so you can begin this amazing journey.  Leave me a note (comment with your email) telling me you'd like to read it and I'll pick a winner by the end of Sunday, July 31!** ARC received from NetGalley for my honest review. **

A battle for control turns explosive as a beautiful con woman takes a bad-boy biker hostage in this edgy, seductive novel set in the world of Everything I Left Unsaid (“Toe-curlingly sensual.”—Katy Evans) and The Truth About Him (“Absolutely one-click worthy”—J. Kenner).

The only thing that matters to me is rescuing my sister from the drug-cooking cult that once enslaved us both. I’ve run cons my whole life, and I’ll use my body to get whatever I need. Max Daniels is the last connection I have to that world, the one person reckless enough to get involved. Besides, now that his brothers have turned on him, he needs me too.

The deal was supposed to be simple: a place to hide in exchange for rescuing my sister. Now he’s my prisoner. Totally at my mercy. But I’m the one captivated. Enthralled. Doing everything he asks of me until I’m not sure who’s in control.

We both crave the heat. The more it hurts, the better. But what if Max wants a different life now, to leave the game . . . to love me? I thought I knew better than to get burned. Now I’m in too deep to pull away. And the crazy thing is . . . I don’t want to.

Praise for the novels of M. O’Keefe

“M. O’Keefe blew me away with The Truth About Him, the conclusion to the dark, emotional, and dangerously sexy story of Annie and Dylan that began with the brilliant Everything I Left Unsaid. This duet by M. O’Keefe is tops of my 2015 favorites list!”—New York Times bestselling author J. Kenner

“The Truth About Him is one of the most gorgeous books I’ve ever read. Dark, sexy and emotionally haunting, it has stayed with me long after I turned the last page.”—New York Times bestselling author Tracy Wolff

Kade ignored them and strode onto the wooden dance floor, headed straight for Lexie. Just as he reached her, the song changed to one with a faster beat. She squealed in delight, looking up at the ceiling and lifting her arms in the air, swaying to song. Before her partner could grab her around the waist, Kade stepped between them. “Kade!” Lexie exclaimed, her eyes lighting up at the sight of him. Things had been strained between them all week, so between the exuberant greeting and the glassy look in her eyes, Kade figured she’d been drinking. Which gave him a legitimate reason to get her off the dance floor and away from this guy. “Let’s go,” he said to her. “Hey!” Surfer dude folded his arms across his chest, taking a stand. Too bad for him, Kade was bigger, bulkier, and had more invested to back down easily. “Casey, meet Kade, my big old mean boss,” Lexie said, oblivious to the pissing contest about to take place, Yep, she was drunk, Kade thought, amused despite himself. “She’s not going anywhere,” surfer dude informed him. Lexie looked up at Kade with big blue eyes. “What are you doing here?” she asked, her hips still moving in time to the music, her generous breasts swaying to the beat. His cock couldn’t help responding and he grew hard in an instant. “I’m taking you home,” he informed her. “Hey.” Surfer dude shoved him hard. “Don’t you listen? I said she’s – “ “With me,” Kade said, getting into the guy’s personal space. “And don’t fucking touch me.” He glared at the other man with a look that had most people cowering. One he’d perfected as he’d learned to box and worked out enough to overcome the geekiness of youth. “Now unless you want trouble, as in your teeth all over this floor, walk away now.” “Kade!” Lexie said, outraged. Casey raised both hands in defeat. “Fine. She’s not worth it,” he muttered, before turning and disappearing into the crowd. “I lost my dance partner,” Lexie said, pouting, her pretty hot pink lips turned downward in a frown. Kade wanted to seal his mouth over hers and nibble on those plump lips until she opened for him and he could taste her sweetness. Before he could do just that, she grabbed him around the waist. “Dance with me!” She moved to the music, her soft body pressed sweetly against his, her belly flush against his now raging erection. Kade was many things, but a dancer wasn’t one of them. The crowds were getting to him. The noise was causing a beat throughout his system that was ramping up his nerves. And the lights were causing him to feel out of control. None of which he liked. All of which had caused him problems in the past. He needed to get the hell off the dance floor and find a quiet corner to calm the fuck down. He needed to be alone with Lexie. “Come on.” He grabbed her hand and pulled her along with him, off the wooden floor, past Derek and Luke, who’d gotten themselves drinks and had been enjoying the show he put on. He continued on beyond the crowded bar to a hallway that had a line of people waiting for the restrooms. Shit. A big, red, EXIT sign beckoned at the far end and when he reached it, the door was propped open with a milk crate, letting fresh air into the packed area. “Thank God,” he muttered. “Where are we going?” she asked, pressing herself up against his back, whether on purpose or because of the many people, he didn’t know or care. “Outside for air,” he said over his shoulder. Never letting go of her hand, he stepped outside and walked down a small alley until the music faded enough for him to be able to hear again, which in turn, enabled him to start to calm down. “Oh it feels good out here,” Lexie said. Lifting her long hair up, she leaned forward, letting air blow against her damp neck. “Whew!” She shook out her hair, which had the effect of wriggling her ass. Kade let out a low groan. The woman was going to be the death of him. He leaned against the brick façade of a building and took in the cool night air. Closing his eyes, he breathed in and out slowly, counting upward by four and down by four, until his heartrate slowed to a comfortable beat. He opened his eyes to find Lexie staring at him in silence. Her makeup had smudged beneath her eyes and she’d twisted her hair back into some sort of messy knot, but she’d never looked more beautiful. “Are you okay?” she asked, that perceptiveness he loved about her returning now that they’d had a few minutes of quiet. “I am now.” She stepped closer. “Why, Kade?” He figured she was asking why he was here. “Luke and Derek wanted to come out after dinner.” She shook her head. “No, why not just leave me alone? You could be having drinks with your friends but instead you’re interrupting my night. Why?” She’d inched into his personal space, was pushing for answers he didn’t want to face, let alone give.

My Review:

Kaden and Lexie were a fun story to get lost in.  They were captivating and sweet, sexy and it was an all-around good read!  Carly Phillips never disappoints! Lexie hasn’t had an easy life, she had to grow up way too fast and take on major responsibility, yet she doesn’t let it get her (too) down.  She is given a chance at being the assistant to billionaire Kaden Barnes and she’s determined to be the best assistant he’s ever had.  She hasn’t been able to keep a normal job due to her responsibilities so she knows this is her best chance at having and keeping a job.  She wasn’t prepared for Kaden’s sexiness.

I thoroughly enjoyed the banter between Kade and Lexi.  She stood up to him, even when she felt intimidated by him.  She didn’t let him know he got to her.  Therefore, he was intrigued by her.  He was grumpy and rude to her but she didn’t back down.  In fact, she would push him back.  She’s exactly what he needed! The build-up and anticipation was awesome.  There were many things happening in this book and part of Kade’s past was a portion.  He didn’t want to bring Lexi down with him.  And Lexi had her own drama and her family was her crutch at times.  It was a little maddening, but the reader understands why Lexi lets her family run her life.  Kade is good for her and she’s good for him. They are a force to be reckoned with together.

I didn’t want this book to be over and I DEVOURED it.  There are so many things happening in this book and the characters are complex.  I LOVED this story and highly recommend it! And I can't wait for the next book in the series.Get your copy today. You won’t be disappointed!

Sitting at the table again, Cassie glanced toward Simon. “You don't seem the type to cook.”

“I hate stereotypes, don't you?” He took in her earthy outfit. Her hippie persona was definitely not going to work when they went to meet his contacts. Which brought him to his next question. “What's your specialty?”

“Robotics.” She shrugged, as though every bombshell of a blonde majored in robotics.

“Any languages?”?

“I know about forty computer languages.”?

“Good. You can speak to all the computers we encounter. What about foreign languages?”?

“Spanish and French.”?

“Fluent?”?

“Mexican Spanish fluent, not so much in French. Since I don't know my role, I'm unsure what skills I'll need.”?

They must have chosen her for a purpose. She'd be the technical expertise, while he handled the practical logistics.

“You're supposed to be my lover. Are you comfortable with that?”?

He watched her reaction. She nodded, swallowed hard, and then dropped her eyes to her potatoes. He'd take that as a no.

Synopsis:

After his partner was murdered, Simon Dunn was finished with MI6. But the cold, violent world of British intelligence never lets anyone go free. Now Simon has been blackmailed into a new job...with a beautiful new partner who's going to get them both killed.

She sat on the floor in a corner of the cell. The only contents of the frigid room were a cot with a threadbare blanket and a bucket, which she assumed was to be used if she needed to relieve herself. The blood spatter had dried to a crusty mess on her clothing and face, and was matted into her hair.

They’d left her alone and she had lost all sense of time, but she knew they would be coming for her. Marcus wanted the information in her head. She was a liability to the whole group now, not only for what she knew, but also for how she could be used. She understood that she would have a limit. She would protect the resistance with her life, but Marcus was creative. If he put his gun to the head of a child, what would she do? Her mind raced with unspeakable possibilities. She had to get away.

When she heard the door begin to open sometime later, she already had a plan. A single soldier entered the cell carrying water and food. She lay unmoving on the concrete floor and didn’t respond when he called to her. She heard him swear under his breath and put the tray down to approach her. When he knelt beside her and put his hand out, presumably to check her pulse, she grabbed his wrist. Startled, he tried to pull back, but she had already pushed her consciousness into his.

His eyes widened with surprise and then fear as she used her mind to constrict the blood vessels traveling to his brain until he was unconscious. She dragged him into one corner of the cell, took his weapon, and after checking the hallway, closed the cell door behind her. The corridor was dimly lit. It was quiet and empty as she quickly made her way to the lift. Her heart pounded in her chest as the machine rose steadily and finally came to a stop aboveground.
