Jude

I faked my way long enough by keeping my mouth shut, painting a fake smile on my face and focusing hard on my job.
I quit going out to find that random piece of ass.
Not a one of them would stand up to her anyway.
She hates me, loathes me even.
Little does Vivian Shepard know I’ve got more tricks up my sleeve than she will ever begin to imagine to get her to change her mind, to get my chance.
I’m not giving up.
I want her, and by God, I’ll fight as dirty as I can get to have her.
No matter what!

Vivian
Of course, I knew it was a one- night stand.
It’s was the perfect night before all hell broke loose to be quite honest.
Drinking, talking and flirting.
One I relished in as I tried to gravitate my mind back to solid ground after soaring so high I could feel the rush of flying.
My stomach dipped, my heart fluttered, and my toes curled inward and then I splattered to the hard surface of the ground.
Jude Westbrooke opened his big fat mouth.
He ruined it, ruined me, ruined it all.

My Review

After reading Riddick, I was excited to get Jude's story! I enjoyed how the chapters flipped back and forth between both each of the perspectives.  I feel like it gave the full story.  I enjoyed the inner turmoil happening to the characters as they often thought one thing, but said another. I also liked how Jude knew Vivian and didn't let what she was saying deter him. He knew what they had was special and he wasn't letting her go again.  Who doesn't love a tenacious alpha male?! While their journey was sweet, the things happening in their lives wasn't so.  I found myself on the edge of my seat while I read, waiting for something to happen.  I really enjoyed Jude's book and I recommend it!

Excerpt

“We need to talk.” I finally manage to pull away from her. My eyes are diverting from her mouth to her soaked t-shirt. “Fuck,” I snarl. Her pink nipples are standing out against the wet fabric, which is white and very thin. My gaze darkens the further south it goes, down to her tiny little pink and white shorts that are saturated. Rivulets of water are dripping down her long, toned legs, dripping off her silky skin to mix with the giant puddle on the floor.
“You look absolutely beautiful, Red.”
“What in the hell are you doing here, Jude? It’s a monsoon out there. And what gives you the right to barge into my house and attack me like that, anyway? Have you lost your mind?” She shoves me back a step and climbs off the counter, nearly falling on her ass in the process. Slippery when wet, baby! The spell is broken.
“I didn’t lose my mind. You fucking stole it. I can’t stop thinking about you, and no matter what you try and say, I know damn well you don’t want me to. So we are talking, goddamn it!” I yell.
“Well, that sure didn’t sound like talking to me. And take your mind back. I don’t want it.” Liar.
“No, darling, it wasn’t talking. What that was, was several months of pent-up frustration over wanting more of what you gave me the night we met. What that was, was me telling you that I’m not a man who walks away from something he knows is rare. You want to give me my mind back, then let me give you something more to stew about in that pretty head of yours. You are so full of shit if you think for one second I’m buying the piss-ass excuse that you don’t want me. And before your head gets all rattled and you start spewing more of your shit, I’m not talking about sex, Vivian. I’m talking about you. The woman I know is in there, but is too fucking stubborn to let the best side of her out. I want that woman. The woman I met before I fucked shit up. The woman I want to ask out on a date. So, you know what? I’m here to tell you that once you decide to let that woman emerge, you give me a call.”
I turn to leave and grab the door handle. I’m so fucking mad she isn’t trying to stop me like she should that I could spit nails into this door. Hammer this goddamn thing shut.
“I’m telling you right the hell now, Vivian, that if you don’t call me, then you are wasting what I know for a goddamn fact would be the greatest gift given to me, which is you.”

Kathy Coopmans - Riddick review, excerpt and giveaway

Riddick by Kathy Coopmans is NOW LIVE!

Are you ready?

Blurb
She told me Heaven would knock on my door one day.
That I would be swept away from the hell I lived in.
She was right about one thing and so wrong about the other.
Heaven came in the form of an angel just like she said.
Beautiful.
Perfect.
An angel.
And then.
My life became hell.
She disappeared. Vanished.
I left. Went to war. Killed. All for her.
Every face was the man who took her.
Every dream filled with her.
For twelve years I existed in hell. Breathed in the fires from down below.
Until her, the woman on the beach outside of my home.
Captivating.
Enchanting.
Mesmerizing.
It couldn't be my Cora, my angel, my heaven on earth.
She was dead.
Wasn't she?

My Review

I love getting lost in Kathy's books and the beginning of Cora and Riddick's story had me gasping and wanting more. I was immediately drawn into their story.  Cora was a strong woman, who had to overcome quite a bit in her life.  Loss of her parents, horrible brother. But luckily for her she found Vivian and her parents. She finally had a great family of her own making.  However, she was just surviving. She wasn't living.  She thought about Riddick always and never allowed herself to love anyone else. Have I mentioned Cora's brother is a piece of work?! I was ready to throat punch him! And on the flip side, Riddick has never forgotten Cora.  They were both victims of her brother; they lost 12 years. But in typical Kathy Coopmans fashion, she sends the reader through twists and turns and things they won't see coming.  The emotions run high in this book and it's sad, sweet and hang on to your seat action!  I enjoyed how the book flipped from both of their POVs.  I recommend this read!

Excerpt
Jesse’s threats should make me want to shut my mouth; they don’t. I’ll make all the noise in the world to find out why I feel like I’m being dragged to my death. Oh God, please tell me they do not know!
Without warning, Cutter grips me by my hair, yanking me out of my spot in the corner. My backside is landing on the rough gravel with a solid thud. The sharp stones are penetrating through the flesh on my back. I scream out in agony as this man bores his fingers into my cheeks, digging into my skin enough to draw blood with his fingernails penetrating through my flesh. They’re going to kill me.
“You’re finally getting a chance to get out of here. If you fuck this up, I’ll kill him. Do you get me?” What? I ignore his comment about leaving here. That rolling in my stomach starts to turn, spinning out of control until it crashes into my chest, making it hard for me to breathe. I know exactly whom he’s referring to, and the thought makes me want him to stick his dick in my mouth so I can bite the repulsive little thing off. He’s talking about Riddick. Cutter nods my head for me using his greased, stained hands, his fingernails so dirty I gag at the sight. Those hands that make me cringe every time they touch me leave my face and go right back to my hair, where he pulls me behind him across the lot while I stifle my cries of pain. Not from the gravel clawing and embedding into my skin. From the words he spits out like it’s an everyday occurrence to threaten me with the only thing that can plunder my soul. This is the first time he’s physically hurt me, which makes me realize that whatever I’m here for is the worst kind of bad.

My life is not my own anymore. It belongs to my brother, and I’m a nut job because of it. I live inside my own head, talk to myself, pretend like I’m carrying on a conversation with the one person I want with me all the time. Riddick. I stare at walls for hours upon hours of the day and night, daydreaming of a better life on the ocean, where I can roam freely. Feel the wind swaying in with the tide, my hair blowing back away from my face as I breathe in the salty air. These conscious fantasies are a young woman’s fairy tale we all wish to come true. Riddick knows how much living on the ocean means to me. He is going to kill them for thinking they can put their slimy hands on me. This will be the end to the street fighting gang war my brother seems to think he’s the king of. People stay clear of Jesse Barrick for a reason. He’s maniacal crazy. Certifiably teetering on the edge of insanity. And whatever his reasons are for mistreating me have crazed him out to the point where I’m tumbling over the edge first.

My Review:

I'm pretty sure this book was my absolute favorite of the entire series! I really enjoyed how this book focused on Calla and Roan, but encompassed everyone. This book was an edge of your seat ride.  It has some sweetness to it, but it's raw, rough, cruel but underneath it all, it's about love and family.  Some of the things learned are shocking, while others seem to be par for the course.  This book took me through the ups and downs in the syndicate world and at times it was maddening!

You need to read all the previous books in order to understand what is happening in this book. It was a great combination of everything we've already seen but this particular story was a little darker than all the rest.  Yet, I was completely sold on it and didn't want to put it down! The reader feels the characters' anger, frustration and fury at what is happening to them. Kathy writes in such a way that the reader feels for them, even though they have never been on the up and up. Suddenly, you are hoping they kill this person.   It's intense, but totally worth the read!  Be sure to add this one to your TBR or (unlike me) if you're caught up on your TBR, dive right in!

Excerpt

“These people are ruthless, Calla. Are you sure you can handle it?” I told her as well as Alina and Anna the same thing I’m telling Roan. I’m extremely aware of how dangerous this situation is. I may not have had the displeasure of personally dealing with these wretched leaders who don’t play fair in our world; on the contrary, I will not tolerate any of them treating me any different because I have tits and a vagina. If it weren't for women, they would be fucking each other over more than they do now. Welcome to the first episode of badassery and women power, you self-righteous dicks.
I’m a firm believer in women’s rights. I don’t care what men’s opinions are of us or what a woman is trying to accomplish. We are all equal. The only difference we have is, women use their brain the way we should, while most men use what hangs between their legs to do their bidding for them. And I can guarantee, these overbearing suckers have dicks that should be playing a role in Ripley’s Believe it or Not. Small dicks, small brains, and all that jazz.
I’ve been fighting round after round with Cain for weeks over this. The need to protect me I get. We have a daughter, is his argument. “Why do you feel the need to take on this role? You don’t have to, you know? One of us can.” It’s not that Cain wants this position. No. That’s not it at all. The man is scared of losing his wife. Of the things I will see, the things I may have to do. How I’ll react to being threatened. Will the same thing or worse happen to me like it did before? It’s not one bit funny, but the only way to shut that man up is to flash my tits and vagina in his face. Then fuck him until his cock—which isn’t small by any means—takes over his worried brain. Like I said, men. I love my man, though. These pissy, arrogant cock-suckers who will be calling a meeting at any time are the worthless pieces of shit. Except the Solokovs, who think in this century and treat everyone equally like we do, not like these fools who I’ve studied until my eyes were bleeding and could no longer make out their faces through my blurred vision. Most of them I haven’t met yet, and they already make me sick and make me want to hurl all over their expensive Armani suits. They could all learn a thing or two from a woman.
“Get to the point, Calla. You said we don’t have time to fuck around. Let me hear your theory.”
“You need to loosen up, Roan. You sound like Hitler, for god’s sake.” I salute him.
The tiny crack of a smile he had moments ago falls; in its place is the face of a man who’s suffered loss and hardship. This look on him is what I hate. I’ve been busting my ass to help him out here. Searching through tiny holes for any goddamn thing I could find.
What Cain and Roan don’t understand is the craving I have to protect them too. It’s my right. I may not have lived my entire life growing up in this environment of murder, drugs, stealing, and the latest, underground illegal fighting, but I’m no fool. I can play with fire, but I’m not allowing myself to get burned.
“I’m not afraid of those men, you know. I’m not afraid of you either. In fact, I just may be your biggest weapon. Remember that, Roan,” I seethe. Between him and Cain trying to scare the crap out of me, I’m ready to prove myself to them more than anyone else.
The sharp tongue, piss, and vinegar are all in my blood. Just like Roan, I will kill for my blood. I also know Roan. That man protects with his life, as do the rest of these men. He’s going to have someone on me at all times. Maybe even several men. What he fails to realize is, my dad will never allow anything to happen to me. He’s already volunteered to go where I go. People are scared to death of the unstoppable John Greer, and they should be. He’s killed and made more people disappear than I want to know about, but he’s my father, my protector, and even though I trust our friends and family, I trust him more. His eyes are everywhere, trained on point. I don’t want anything to happen to my dad. I do know he will refuse to let anyone take care of what’s his, especially after the hell I went through with Roan’s older brother, Royal; a man I didn’t know before he kidnapped me. Besides, both of them know my dad has trained me to shoot. I hope I remember how. I’m not invincible, none of us are. But I sure as hell will not lie down and let anyone trample all over me. Especially men who don’t respect me.
I'm sick and tired of this shit. Here we think everything is fine. Those people will stick with the rules. You stay in your territory, and I’ll stay in mine. Hell no, someone crossed over. Someone shot our loved one in cold blood.

Excerpt
“I know what the fuck is running through your mind, Dilan. Let it fucking go. You can blame yourself all you want, but this is the last time I’ll tell you that no one blames you for this. We’re all a little shocked. Stunned to the very fucking core over this shit. One thing you need to know, to hear from me, is this. I can honestly stand here and tell you that if I were you, I would be doing the same thing. Nothing would have stopped me, and I know with every goddamn bone in my body that you wouldn’t blame me for a damn bit of it. Pull your head out of your ass. Man the fuck up. I want every one of those women back.” I close my eyes and clip the bridge of my nose, exhaling as I do.
“Don’t stand there pitying yourself or any one of us, Dilan. We will get through this.” My uncle stands directly in front of me. His words are mixing with the ones Roan just spoke, stabbing me with a dull knife into my already wounded heart.
“One thing I hate is repeating myself. But it seems with you I have to. You’ve always carried this fucked-up world on your shoulders. Just like your cousin, you’re a fixer. Determined to do shit on your own in order to protect those you love. Well, goddamn it, sometimes in life we need to ask for help. Even though you didn’t, you sure as fuck are getting it. There are things in life that drive us to do things we do not want to do. I know first-hand how these things or people that drive a knife so deep into your gut, twisting the shit out of it until you’re damn near bleed dry, can possess your every thought. It damn near killed me to know Royal had a part in putting you away. Why he turned on all of us is irrelevant. He did. He broke the rules and so did the Carlos family. The situation with Royal has lead up to all of this. My guess is he was jealous of you, like he was of his own brother. He had his filthy hands mingling with Juan’s, to attack me where he knew it would hurt me the most. My family.” He pauses briefly then continues on, his words pulling me from my gloom of guilt.

My Review:
After the end of the last book, The Absolution of Aidan, I was hoping for Dilan's story next! And here we are. Whew! These books have been quite the journey and I do recommend starting from the beginning if you have not read any of this series. You can see my review of The Wrath of Cain here.  Anyway, back to Dilan.  Oh Dilan.  He's a conflicted man, but he has a heart of gold. He hasn't forgotten the woman who captured his attention and she certainly hasn't forgotten him either.

This book had me on the edge of my seat.  I couldn't put it down!  The conflict is crazy and kept me guessing.  I found myself gasping and thinking, "NO WAY!" and "OHMYGOSH!" It's an intense book but in the midst of all of the drama, there's family love and partner love. It's sweet, sad and a whole lot of action. I was sucked into Dilan and Anna's world as they had to move on from their past as well as the danger surrounding them.  Very enjoyable read that I would recommend!

Excerpt
Love, a word never on my radar, has now taken over my existence.  My world revolves around this man.
I’m in love with him because of the deep connection I felt the second I saw him and dealing with the torture of this week has only intensified my feelings.  My mind went crazy, thinking of everything he went through, as I examined all of the marks on his body.  I can tell he was whipped many times.  The wounds are starting to heal, but I’m afraid the surface scars will always be there.  And I don’t even want to think about the internal scars something like this would bring.
I don’t care what he looks like or how much this will torment him.  He takes me and I take him just the way he is.  He’s been point blank about wanting me from the first day we met, and now it’s time I match his determination.  His blastoff introduction to have me on my knees that first day could’ve so easily gone a different way.  I’m just glad I felt the connection the second I laid my eyes on him.

My Review

This book picked up right where the last book left off.  I was anxiously awaiting this story because I was completed captured by the story.  You can see my review of Ice here. And you definitely need to read that book in order to know what the heck is going on in this book!  Emotions are running high from the very beginning of this story.  This book has loss, love, family and friends.  It's a good combination, as are these 2 authors! I was completely hooked into the continuation of Kaleb and Jade's story.   I enjoy how we get each of their perspectives and we know what is going through their heads as things happen around them.  The chemistry is off the charts between them and they get each other.

This book made me feel all the feels.  It's definitely intense and I had to find out how everything would turn out.  It kept me captivated and I didn't want to put it down. To me, that's a good book! When I finished this book and learned we get Harris' story next, I may or may not have raised my fist in the air. I'm so glad Kathy and Hilary will be bringing us another story.  Their writing is seamless and they make a dynamic duo.  If you like a lot of action, hot alpha males and steamy romance, then go get this book right now!
