J. Daniels - Down Too Deep review

Two single parents and three adorable kids are about to have a summer they'll never forget in this sexy, heartwarming new novel of the New York Times bestselling series.

Following the sudden death of his wife, Nathan Bell spent nearly two years burying himself in work and neglecting his biggest responsibility: his daughter. Overcome with guilt, he wants to connect with little Marley, but he doesn't know how to do it alone. And then Jenna Savage throws him a lifeline.

A single mom of twins, Jenna is more than capable of taking care of Nathan's adorable two-year-old and wants to help Nathan however she can. As the days go by and her attraction to Nathan grows, she can't help wondering what might happen if they became a family for real. And the closer everyone becomes, the more right it feels.

Falling in love forces Nathan to face his biggest fear, and when hearts -- both big and little -- are on the line, the only thing scarier than needing Jenna and her kids so much is losing them all.

My Review

Whew! I was very quickly lost in Nathan's plight and Jenna's saving him. Marley is just the CUTEST THING EVER! (I wanted to squeeze this child and snuggle her!) Jenna is in a position where she's able to help poor Nathan out. She doesn't even hesitate, which shows the kind person she is. She and her kids quickly fall in love with Marley as well. They soon find their new normal and Jenna and Nate's lives intertwine. I was completely lost in their story, the sweetness and the realness. I was soon wrapped in ALL. THE. FEELS. in the great way J. Daniels does. I loved the way she captures the reader. I highly recommend this book.

J. Daniels - Bad For You review

Since this is the third book in the series, we've seen a glimpse into Shayla's and Sean's lives. I've been anxiously awaiting this book and J. Daniels did not disappoint!
My heart went out to Sean. He had a hard childhood.  I just wanted to scoop him up and hug him! Shay is drawn to him.  As he lets his guard down, bit-by-bit, she worms her way into his life and she is his biggest supporter.  This story was heartbreaking and oh-so-sweet! The push and pull these two had on each other was captivating.  Sean had never had anyone like Shayla in his life before. He didn't know how to react.  He blooms in her friendship and this broken, sweet, amazing man works hard to be a better person.  I just wanted to wallow in this awesome book from J. Daniels! She brought her A-game with Bad For You and I didn't want this book to ever end! Grab your copy today.

"If you're a fan of Kristen Ashley, then you will love this book." -Aestas Book Blog on Four Letter Word

He didn't want to be bad. He just didn't have a choice...
Shayla Perkins isn't the kind of girl who makes the same mistake twice, especially when it comes to Sean "Stitch" Molina. So when he gives her the world's biggest rejection, that's it--she's done. Until the sexy, silent, unavailable Sean makes Shay a very personal offer. Of course, it still doesn't mean he's interested in her. Or does it?

Sean has done things in life. Bad things. And he's paid the price. All he wants now is to make up for his past by doing good in the present. And no one deserves more good than Shay. Beautiful on the inside and out, Shay is the kind of woman who should be cared for and protected--especially from a man like Sean. He's tried to keep his feelings for her in check, but a single, reckless impulse pulls them closer than ever before.

Soon the two are sharing their biggest dreams and satisfying their deepest desires. But what will happen if the only way to truly give each other what they want most...is to let each other go?

"The perfect mix of funny, hot and heartwarming. I enjoyed it immensely!" --Mia Sheridan, New York Times bestselling author, on Four Letter Word

My Review

Now, I have to preface this by stating, the only author whose world I was familiar with was J. Daniels.  But, I LOOOOOOOOOOVED these stories! For the authors whom I had never read (Helena Hunting and Bella Jewel), I plan on reading soon! I do own Pucked, just haven't had a chance to read it yet. Even though the other stories I wasn't familiar with the set of characters I have read other books by these authors, their stories were easy to get caught up in and I didn't feel lost as to who the characters were. They were enjoyable, Halloween reads! They ranged from scary to fun and flirty.  A little something for everyone! And I now want to read these other series.

J. Daniels' Alabama Summer series is one I'm VERY familiar with! I love me some Bama boys! I really enjoyed how this book was written from Ben, Reed, Luke, CJ and Nolan's perspectives. I enjoyed seeing what each couple was up to and how they were getting ready for Halloween this year :)  I felt like this story was aptly named, So Much More.  It wasn't long but I was completely sucked into their lives. I didn't want the book to be over.  J. Daniels pulled at my heartstrings, made me laugh out loud and made my little bookworm heart happy! I highly recommend this read!

Excerpts from EYE CANDY

FALLEN CREST NIGHTMARE by Tijan
“Mason was in Los Angeles for a football game. He was playing tonight, and then he’d travel to Cain on Friday. We’d have a full weekend together.
I almost groaned. It’d been two weeks since I had last seen him, and I wanted him here now, but . . . one more day. I kept telling myself that, trying not to count the hours on the clock. One more day. Actually, half a day. Maybe I could get super drunk tonight and that’d make the time go faster? No. Even as I half-entertained the thought, I knew I couldn’t.
There’d be booze, Heather, Taylor, Courtney, Grace, and me. Plus pumpkins and carving tools, and I knew Logan would show up somehow. It wasn’t a recipe to get blitzed out of my mind. I’d need to stay alert tonight.
“Sam!”
I looked back, realizing that Heather had moved on without me. “Yeah?”
She waved to the wheelbarrow she was holding, filled with pumpkins. “I got enough of these things for tonight and the party tomorrow. Come on, let’s head out.”
We had been tasked with collecting them not just for carving tonight, but also for a party that Logan was throwing on Friday night. He was partially doing it in Mason’s honor, but also because it was Halloween and it was our last year of college. Logan was finding any excuse to throw a party this year. If I sneezed and the snot came out gold, he would throw a party to celebrate it.
I shook my head, making my way down the row to where Heather was paying for all the pumpkins. The penis one was on top.
“Really?” I looked at it. The thick root was sticking straight up. It had been pointing toward the air before, but now it was curved back against the pumpkin.
She grinned. “He’s happy to see you. I wanted to make you feel special.”
“A pumpkin has a boner for me. Special doesn’t describe how I feel.” But I was grinning too.

SO MUCH MORE by J. Daniels
“Oh my God, look at that.” She points at what’s supposed to look like bodies wrapped in blood-stained sheets. There’s a group of them stacked together on the ground near an overturned wagon.
I think I hear something—a moan or a word I can’t make out. When we get closer, the body on the bottom of the pile begins to jerk and scream for help.
“Jesus,” I grunt.
Tessa gasps and squeezes my hand.
“Isn’t this supposed to be for kids?” I ask, brow furrowed as I watch the guy’s legs smack against the dirt. “Nolan would freak out seeing this.”
“Yeah, seriously. There were a lot of kids in that line.” Looking over at me with wide eyes, she shrugs. “Maybe this is the scariest thing we see?”
A chainsaw starts in the distance, startling Tessa. She stops on the path as several women scream, and squeezes my hand to the point of pain when a young boy runs toward us with his mother close behind.”
“What the fuck?” I squint through the fog.
When the boy gets closer, I can see how frightened he looks—like Chase when he has those night terrors.
Eyes wide with panic, mouth open and ready to scream, a steady stream of tears spilling down his face.
Jesus. This could scar him for life.
“Sweetheart, it’s okay! It’s not real!” the mother yells as the two of them run past us. “They aren’t really burning people alive! I promise!”
Tessa and I share a look.
“Um, why don’t we walk a little faster,” she suggests, tugging on my hand. “Come on.”
The path bends around a tree, and we move quicker now, Tessa not even bothering to look at the haunted displays around us. She clings to me with her arms squeezing my waist and her head smashed against my ribs, keeping her eyes focused ahead”

GETTING DOWN by Helena Hunting
One eyebrow quirks as he asks, “You two playing dress-up?”
I grin. I assume it must look incredibly evil considering the makeup I’m currently sporting but am not allowed to see yet. “We’re practicing for Halloween.”
His mouth tilts in a smirk. “Fuck yes you are.”
Oh yeah. I’m getting so lucky later. I don’t think I’m changing out of this costume, as difficult as it might be to sit in all night considering the massive wings attached to my back. I’ll make it work. Bancroft is very well acquainted with my love of all things Halloween and horror.
“What’s happening in there?” Armstrong elbows Bancroft in the ribs so he can poke his head in the door.
He edges inside the bathroom and his eyes go wide as they move over Amie. I suppose I can understand why. I’ve managed to get her into a pair of red satin booty shorts and a tight T-shirt. Her bra is very, very visible through the thin fabric. Her amazing legs are on display. Her hair is pulled up into two pigtails. If I wasn’t 100 percent sure she wasn’t even close to Bancroft’s type, I might be inclined to make her cover up. But he’s not into leggy blondes. He’s into somewhat petite brunettes. He also likes the sass, which I have an abundance of.
“What’re you wearing?” Armstrong asks. He sounds very much like he’s sucked on a helium balloon for shits and giggles.
Amie looks down at herself, as if she doesn’t understand his concern. She does. Fully. We talked about how he wouldn’t approve of this costume at all before they arrived. Which is the exact reason I suggested she continue to wear it.
I’m not actively trying to interfere in my best friend’s relationship, but I’m not fully convinced he’s the perfect fit for her, either. He’s far too trust - fund - pickle - up - ass.

UNSAFE HAVEN by Bella Jewel
“Oh my,” Kaity says when I pull the black and purple dress over my head. “That’s . . . sexy.”
I look down, realizing it must have shrunk in the last year, or I must have grown, because it’s a lot shorter than I remember. The purple satin just covers my backside. Oh my God. I tug at it, trying to get it down further, but it isn’t going to move. “It was longer than this last time, I swear.”
“Well,” Marlie says, raising her brows, “Oliver is going to be a happy man tonight.”
“I should change? Right?” I say frantically, tugging the dress.
“Absolutely not!” Marlie cries. “You’re going to wear that dress with pride and knock the socks off that man.”
I tug again, but to no avail. The dress is not moving.
I have nothing else to change into, so I have no choice but to wear it. Sighing, I pull on the long black tights, thanking God they’ll stop my panties from flashing, at the very least. I put on a pair of slim boots, pull on my black, tattered wings, and then let my hair down to flow around my shoulders and down my back. Then I get to work applying dark makeup. When I’m done, I spin around.
Kaity is wearing her sheet, which makes me grin. And Marlie is all decked out in a super cool witch costume. Both their eyes fall on me and widen. “Holy crap. I knew you were pretty, woman, but I didn’t know you could do hot, too. Oliver is going to lose his mind when he lays eyes on you,” Marlie says.
I look down and then back up again. “Is it too much?”
“Hell to the no,” Kaity says, coming over and grabbing my arm. “Let’s go before you change your mind.”

THE PUMPKIN WAS STUFFED by Tara Sivec
“It’s a Halloween wedding, and you’re wearing a costume,” Scheva growls.
“You said this was a meeting to discuss any final changes to the outfits. Well, I’m making a final change. I’m NOT wearing the costume you picked out for me,” Noel argues.
“You will wear it and you will like it!”
“You made me a cardboard box you expect me to wear, painted like an oven, with a picture of a baby inside that rests right over my stomach. YOU’RE COOKING A BABY!” Noel screams.
“IT’S A BUN IN THE OVEN, AND IT’S CUTE!”
“IT’S NOT A BUN IN THE OVEN. IT’S AN ACTUAL BABY IN THE OVEN. BABIES DO NOT GO IN OVENS!”
“DON’T PISS ME OFF OR I’LL MAKE YOU WEAR THAT FLUORESCENT-GREEN TAFFETA MATERNITY PROM DRESS WITH THE GIANT PUFFY SLEEVES I FOUND AT GOODWILL!”
“You wouldn’t!” Noel fires back, attempting to push herself up from the couch, her belly getting in the way and making her fall back to the cushions five times. I sit next to her and do nothing but watch.
I could be a gentleman and help her up from the couch, but then I’d just be convicted of aiding and abetting when Noel finally gets to her feet, charges Scheva, and chokes her to death.
Noel finally manages to push herself up from the couch and waddles over to Scheva, getting right in her face.
“I’m NOT dressing up as an oven.”
“Yes, you are. I already bought Sam’s chef costume so you two match, and it’s too late to change the entire theme of your matching costumes,” Scheva argues.
“I’m dressing up as a slutty witch, or a slutty kitten, or a slutty devil, just like I do every year, and you’re not going to stop me!”

MY REVIEW

I love J's books. Like, seriously! She's always been one of my go-to authors that I'll buy it just because it has her name on it. And I loooooove the Bama boys! But this book?! CJ totally has my heart.  Whew boy! I was sucked into CJ and Riley's story from the very beginning.  Riley's boyfriend is a tool.  He doesn't treat her well and her brother CLEARLY hates him.  Reed doesn't want Riley to have anything to do with him.  She, on the other hand, doesn't take that well.  But then again, she doesn't go for name calling either.  Slowly but surely her boyfriend starts to show his true colors to her and as the reader, I was also on Reed's side. I wanted to punch him in the face! Jessica definitely provokes a reaction in her reader.  When CJ comes into the picture though. Le sigh.  He held me captivated and I LOVED him.  He is the unicorn of men.  He knows how to treat a lady and knows just the right thing to say.  He doesn't mince words and he says what he means and means what he says.  And let me tell you, reader, CJ will capture you too.  Be prepared for a new book boyfriend because CJ just jumped to the top of my list!  Their story is sweet, sexy and I couldn't put this book down! I wanted to wallow in Jessica's words and this book makes me want my very own CJ.  Hang on to him Riley, that man of yours is definitely a keeper! BUY THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW! I was so excited to be back in the Alabama boys' world and Jessica did not disappoint.  I have a new favorite, for sure!

My Review

Holy hotness, Batman! Jamie and Tori are GREAT together. He pushes all her buttons and she gives it right back to him. He tries to wear her down so she admits she likes him when her past comes back and pushes Jamie and Tori together. It's so sweet and sad and Jamie is the perfect gentleman. And then hold on, the heat in this book is SCORCHING!! Sexy times with these two is often times funny.  They are insatiable but so sweet together. This book had ALL the feels. I want to wallow in everything Jamie and Tori. Seriously. This book? Hit my spot. Round of applause to Ms. J on this fantastic book! I liked Brian but I'm in luuuuurve with Jamie. Hands down he's seriously alpha male swooniness. You need this book in your life. I promise!!

Excerpt

Tori slapped the counter and gained everyone’s attention when she started yelling, “I did not run you over, Jamie! Jesus Christ! Quit spreading lies about me!”

“It ain’t lies if it's true!” I yelled back, glaring at her.

A laugh bubbled in her throat. She tilted her head and stuck her hand on her hip. “Please. I'm sure you're still able to bang everything with a pulse, as usual, which means you’re fine. Get over it, and grow some balls. I cried less when I watched Bambi the first time.”

“Who's hungry?” Syd asked nonchalantly, moving behind her friend to round the island and stand near the stove.

I ignored her question because, what the fuck? Grow some balls?

“I gotta pair, babe,” I told Legs, reaching down and palming my shit. “You should know since you've been all up on ’em the past nine months.”

She rolled her eyes. “You're disgusting.”

I felt my mouth twitch.

And that was when, for some fucked up reason, I reverted back to my old ways with Tori Rivera, forgetting all about how much I fucking hated her and instead going full-on, hell-bent determined to get an admission out of that smart-ass mouth.

“You want it,” I countered, tipping my chin up.

She wasn’t expecting that. No more than I was. It threw her off.

Her shoulders pulled back and her lips parted.

Then, maybe to cover her tell, or maybe she didn't have control over what was flying out of her mouth either, I didn't know, but she brought her other hand to her hip, glared at me with heat flashing in her eyes, tipped forward, and shot back with attitude, “You want it.”

Well shit. This was new. Legs was challenging me and she was doing it flirting. There was no doubt in my mind.

“Sorry, babe,” I said, keeping the smirk and letting go of my junk. “Not interested. I told you yesterday, I’m done waitin’ around. But you?” I pointed my beer at her. “You’ll be beggin' for it before the month is up. Just watch.”

“Fat chance,” she snapped. “I wouldn't sleep with you if my life depended on it.”

“Wanna bet?”

“Bet what?”

“What's going on right now?” Syd called out, but I wasn't pausing to answer her.

I smiled at Tori, then gestured between us, explaining, “First one to break and come crawling to the other person for sex, loses.”

“Are you serious?” She laughed, not in amusement but in disbelief.

“Yeah, I’m serious,” I answered.

“You want to bet me that I'll want to have sex with you before you try and have sex with me?” she questioned, moving her finger between us. “You, the guy who has been hitting on me for nine straight months and has been rejected for nine straight months? You seriously think I'll not only want to have sex with you, but I'll beg you for it? Is that what I just heard?”

I nodded slowly. I had this in the bag. “A rule. No fuckin’ anyone unless it's each other.”

Her eyes bugged.

“And no masturbating either,” I added, raising my beer and using it to gesture. “Since we both know when you do it you’re thinkin’ about me, and if you're that fuckin’ horny you need to rub one out or you'll fuckin' explode, you can come to me, Legs, beg, and I'll put that fire out for you.”

Review

I've been waiting to read this book and I dove in, already excited about it.  I enjoyed the unique way Sydney and Brian "met".  It was funny and very different.  The reader can't help but enjoy their banter as they start talking.  It's endearing.  And the build up to their meeting... shew!  I kept waiting for it and waiting for it.  Again, very unique to this couple.  I enjoyed how romantic Brian was to Sydney. It was sweet and their passion was h-o-t-t! I also enjoyed Sydney and Tori's frienship and how they always had each other's backs. This book moved quickly and it was an enjoyable start to the new series!  Looking forward to Jamie and Tori's story next!

Excerpt

The sun burned across a cloudless sky. I felt the intensity of it bake into the skin of my bare shoulders.
Waves crashed against the shore, some carrying surfers with them in the distance. A few feet ahead of me, a small child kicked a sand castle and giggled with his father.
I sat down on a step and slipped my sandals off.
The sand was warm underneath my feet as I dug my toes into it, staring out at the world in front of me. I rubbed a shell between my fingers as I watched a couple walk hand-in-hand toward the pier.
They looked happy. I tried to remember the last time Marcus held my hand, or even reached for it.
My chest burned when I couldn’t conjure up an image in my mind.
I looked down at the faint line marking my left ring finger. The token I was left with now that I no longer wore my ring. It was subtle, thanks to my naturally pale skin, but to me it stood out like embers glowing in the dark.
I hated it. I didn’t need a reminder of how I’d failed as a wife. Or how Marcus stopped seeing me as one.
Maybe I could coat my entire hand in sunblock except for that thin strip. Burn the memory away.
The idea seemed promising enough to consider.
From my back pocket, my cell beeped with an incoming message.
I wiped the tear from my cheek as I stood and palmed my phone, expecting to see Tori’s name lit up on my screen.
I froze on the step, my free hand on the railing as I stared curiously at the message and the number it was sent from.

Wild Girl. Eaten any innocent men alive today yet?

My lip twitched, the hint of a smile.
I sat back down, reading the message a second time as I remembered my conversation with this stranger yesterday.
My accidental verbal beat-down.
Jesus. I really let him have it.
I couldn’t think of the last time I was that embarrassed.
I told the guy to remove a dildo from his mouth, for Christ sakes.
All in all, whoever this was seemed to be a good sport about it. He could’ve laid into me and cussed me out. Made me feel even more like a complete shit for dialing the wrong number and not confirming the identity of my intended victim before I tore into him like he owed me money.
He was more than decent about the whole thing. Easily forgiving.
And now he was messaging me out of nowhere and striking up conversation.
Wild.
He wanted to talk to me.
Huh.
I tapped my thumb on the edge of the phone case, then hovered over the letters of my keypad as I stared at the message.
Did I even want to talk to this guy anymore? Wasn’t this weird? We didn’t know each other. Our encounter was a mistake. A one-time mishap, never to be repeated.
Right?
