My Review

I was excited to get back to the Lupus and their world! I was very quickly sucked into this book and I was excited to get Jewel's story. The chemistry between Nicu and Jewel was intense and they had a passion between them that couldn't be ignored. Nicu was used to getting his way and Jewel DEFINITELY gave him a run for his money. I enjoyed the push/pull between them. Nicu didn't care what others thought of him, but he made sure to protect Jewel. I didn't want to put this book down!

Growing up in New York City, I used to walk the hot pavements in the melting heat of the long summers, and dream. Uptown to downtown, eastside to the westside, and underground to catch a subway racing out into the boroughs.

During my wanderings, my magic pencil spun out fantasies full of romance, with first meetings, heartbreaks, and reunions. Sometimes my boy crush (unrequited, of course) starred as the hero.

I grew up, and after a stint in art school, became a lawyer 'cuz a woman's got to make a living. I came from parents who fled to France as refugees, and as an attorney, I dedicated my work to helping survivors of trauma and persecution.

I believe in them. In their grit, in their determination to hold on, to pull through and, somehow, someway, to keep themselves intact, body and soul.

Perhaps that is why I am drawn to writing stories of men and women who live through heart-rending pain, desperate yearnings and, ultimately, reach a place of redemption.

For a long time, I fought the urge to veer off the expected, safe path until I couldn't go on unless I took a chance and made a change. I began to write, stopped, and began again. Finally, I gave in and here I am.

My Review

I didn’t want to put this book down! Reid and Leona have an instant attraction to one another, but it's also a slowish burn. She's a little awkward but it's endearing and Reid is the football player who shouldn't be dating her. Only time will bring this to light and the why of this. I enjoyed their journey and the fact they shouldn't be together but it's hard for that heat and chemistry to just disappear and ignore. Leona has her own family drama that she's trying to maneuver around as well. I enjoyed the banter and the differences in these characters. It was a cute story and I enjoyed getting lost in it.

 

EXCERPT

I didn’t get a chance to congratulate you out on the field.” Ashley and Taylor jumped on him with hugs and congratulations, and it had felt like that would be a step too close for us. Like the moment we touched in public, everyone would know about our kiss and the night snuggled up together and the feelings I’d been trying to hide. 

His head swung toward me. “Coach definitely ruined the moment.”

Our eyes locked, and the closeness was a lot like when we were huddled up together in the garage. But nothing about our situation had changed. 

Swallowing, I blurted out the first thing that came to mind. “I can see even more now why you were on board with not seeing each other once you found out who I was. He’d probably make your life a living hell.” 

“Probably.” His jaw ticked. 

“If he found out I was in here with you, he’d be pissed.” 

“Probably.” His gaze blazed with an intensity that wasn’t just anger about his dickhead of a coach. 

“It’s probably why everyone thought it was best to have me down here with you.” 

“Probably.” The word seemed to have lost all meaning. 

“I don’t want to screw up all your hard work and sacrifices. It’s probably why it makes sense for us not to be seen around each other after this is over.” I choked on the words and forced them out past the lump lodged in my throat.

Instead of the probably I’d expected, he turned his whole body. 

“No one else is here right now. It’s just me and you.” 

A shuddering inhale, and our lips were on each other. I didn’t know who kissed who first, but the sensations that poured through our lips meeting made me want more. It made me want everything. The way his mouth moved over mine. His tongue brushed against my lips, demanding and needy at the same time, which sent the fluttering deep in my stomach and turned it into a hungry clench for more. 

Screams from above broke through our cocoon. 

“You’re veering! Turn left! What the hell! Pay attention.” 

Someone banged on the side of Smaug.

Reid course-corrected, and we were no longer headed straight for the living room transplanted to the side of the street. 

I still tasted him on my lips. Peppermint and heat.

My Review

I was HERE for this book! I really enjoyed the mystery as to who she was. Dr. King finds her and patches her up. And while she is healing, he takes care of her. I enjoyed watching their budding relationship and how the past intermixes with the now. The reader is slowly given hints into who she is and what her upbringing looked like. Dr. King isn't without his secrets as well. Both of these characters had an intense past and things were bound to catch up to them, right?! GAH! I was hooked on this book and couldn't read it fast enough! Please do yourselves a favor and grab your copy today!
