Nikki Worrell - Perfect Ten review

I received a copy of this book for an honest review. This was the first book I've read from Nikki Worrell and I will be honest, I had a hard time getting to the end. First off, this story seemed to drag on for me. It could have been over sooner than it was, but also felt long because I had a hard time staying on track with this one. I found I couldn't connect to the characters. I liked both Joe and Faith in the beginning, but then somewhere along they way, I lost them. The plot wasn't bad, it was the execution that kept me from loving this story. In the beginning, the reader could see how Faith's self esteem had taken a hit and how she struggled to believe that Joe was actually interested in her. Then it became too much (all the time) and unbelievable. The characters would be talking and all of a sudden change direction/thought out of the blue. Like, ok, I'm done with this; NEXT! It was a little odd. And the story would change abruptly as well and it just kept me from connecting. I really wanted to like it, too. It wasn't a bad book, but it was just one that didn't click with me. However, I do encourage you to read it if it sounds interesting to you. I hope you won't feel the same as I did while reading it!

“Excuse me, Ms. Porter. Mr. Grant. Is there something you’d like to share with the class?”

And we’ve officially been noticed by Turner. Justine’s cheeks turn red at the professor’s attention.

“Sorry, Professor Turner. I’ve been asking Ms. Porter out at least once a week for the last two years, and she’s still shooting me down. You’d think I’d give up, but I just can’t let it go.”

Justine’s face and ears flame even brighter red, and she slaps a hand over her face and lowers her gaze to the keyboard of her laptop.

“And do you think that announcing this is going to help your case any, Mr. Grant?”

“No, sir, but you asked if I had anything to share with the class.”

The middle-aged man seems like he would have been cool in his day, and I know it’s true when he doesn’t bust my balls any further. “Fair enough, Mr. Grant, but save it for after class. I imagine you’re going to have a lot of apologizing to do, and perhaps some groveling.”

“Thank you, sir.”

Turner moves on to call on the next person on his list to recite the facts of the case, and I’m glad he didn’t bestow that little honor on me.

Justine grabs the Chewbacca Pez dispenser between us and pops a few yellow candies into her mouth. Her face is still bright red, and Turner’s right. I should probably apologize for humiliating her, but it’s not like anyone in this room doesn’t know I’ve been trying since the beginning of our first year. She’s the only one who pretends like it’s not happening—at least until that night after finals at the bar.

I haven’t been able to get the way her body curled into mine out of my head. I need to remind her how fucking good we could be together. If that kiss was anything to go by, when we get naked, we’ll be explosive.

One more chance. That’s all I need to convince her that we have a hell of a lot more to explore.

Class grinds on for what seems like an eternity until Turner dismisses us and everyone starts packing up their laptops and casebooks.

I know I’ve got one shot to get Justine to agree to talk to me—especially after I made my little announcement to the class.

Biding my time, I wait until she’s trying to pass behind me, and I stand so she runs directly into my chest. Thrown off-balance, she wobbles, and I wrap both hands around her hips to steady her.

“I got you.”

Her eyes narrow and her mouth curls into a scowl. “You did that on purpose.”

“Deliberately got in your way so I could get my hands on you again? Damn right, I did.”

I see a flash of confusion and then the anger takes precedence again.

But we both know it’s the truth. Getting my hands on her is exactly what I want. Her shirt rides up on the sides, and I sweep my fingers along her bare skin. Fuck, she’s soft. Which guarantees my dick isn’t.

“Let me go.”

Instead of a demand, Justine’s words sound breathless. I have to remind myself I’m standing in a classroom with a professor up front and students filing in and out. This isn’t the time or place for a hard-on.

“I’ve got some things I need to say to you, and you’re going to let me.”

Her brown eyes snap up to mine, surprise clear in them. “Why should I?”

“Because you’re nothing if not curious, and you want to know what I have to say.”

She steps backward, and I let my fingertips trail across her skin before they drop away. Justine adjusts the straps of her backpack on her shoulders and tucks Chewbacca into a side pocket.

“You know you want to hear the rare sound of me apologizing, don’t you?”

Justine purses her lips, and all I can think about is the dreams I had all weekend of her staring down at me from a stage while she danced and stripped. My own private show. I’m not going to admit how many times I jacked off to the mental picture. I need the real thing, and I won’t have another shot if she won’t even give me a chance to talk to her.

I don’t know what changes her mind, but she relaxes her posture and relents. “Fine. You’ve got five minutes. This better be good.” BADJUDGMENT-promo1

MY REVIEW:

Not going to lie, I have been dying to read Lawson's story! He's a funny man and as we watched the other friends find love, he was never the one to get serious. He has always made me laugh and this book was no exception. It was sweet watching his story play out. They were quirky but it worked for them and they got each other. Lawson and Langley had met in a previous book, so it was fun to get their story.

Langley had had a hard childhood and no family. Lawson had a loving family and good support system made up of friends as well. So these two were exact opposite but they were drawn to each other. Lawson was impressed with all that Langley had accomplished in life and wanted to get to know her. He didn't care what her past looked like and she had to let her walls down. Since they were becoming friends and she was building her friendships with his friends as well, they were able to seamlessly develop into something more. R.C. Boldt writes in such a way that draws the reader into these relationships that seem believable and allows the reader to get lost in their world. Her stories are fun, funny, sweet, swoon worthy and all around great. I highly recommend this book and this whole series!

“I should go say hello to Momma K.” He watched as Lee’s lips twitched, eyeing Foster and Noelle, who were engaged in what appeared to be an epic staredown. Again. For like the millionth time.

Those two and their heated, sexual tension rivaled the fires of Hades.

Waving with a formal air for Lee to walk in front of him, he asked, “Shall we head to the kitchen, ma’am?”

She gave him a look. “Really? You’re ma’aming me?”

With a cocky grin, his answer was smug and thick with insinuation. “Don’t lie, Lee. You like me ma’aming you.”

“I find that I feel dirtier the longer I listen to this,” he heard Laney mutter from behind them.

Shaking her head, Lee walked in front of him and—oh, yeah—that made his Sunday evening veer off from pretty damn good to incredible. Maybe even stellar. He followed her through the dining room, distracted while his mind went where the typical male mind tended to wander when faced with a supremely attractive female.

Straight to the gutter.

Just as he began thinking of the ways he’d enjoy stripping her of those fitted khaki pants that showcased her firm ass, thinking of how he’d love to cup it in his hands as she rode him, it was brought to a screeching halt.

More like a grinding halt, maybe? Because when she stopped abruptly in front of him, just as they were about to walk into Momma K.’s kitchen, his hands instinctively reached for her hips to steady himself. And that slight arch of his lower body toward hers? Into her ass?

Oops. Color him shameless.

Turning her head to the side slightly, she mumbled, “Did you just grind on me? After I felt you staring at my ass the entire walk over here?”

“Guilty.” He smirked. “What can I say? Your ass is like the eighth wonder of the world.”

Before she could respond, they heard Momma K. call out, happily, “Langley! Come here, my dear girl.”

Thus, ending the awkward yet somehow enjoyable encounter with his lovely Lee.

And, yes. The teacher in him took pride in that impromptu example of alliteration.

Lovely Lee. Lovely, luscious Lee. Lawson’s lovely, luscious Lee.

Ding, ding, ding! The latter was absolute perfection.

Yeah, he knew that he was a supreme dork, but at least he was an alliteration genius. Surely that canceled out the dorky part.
